Brain Pagan Counseling

My Mission

My philosophy is to help my clients learn more about themselves through exploring and challenging their current understanding of who they are and what their role is in life. I strive to empower my clients to become the best version of themselves and move out of their comfort zone so they may grow. I am a strong advocate of a holistic approach exploring the biological, spiritual as well as the cognitive areas of each client I support.

About Me

brian pagan
I received a Bachelor’s degree in Counseling Psychology and Business Administration from Arkansas State University. While earning my degree, I evaluated the fidelity outcomes for the Wraparound Fidelity Index 4 (WFI-4) instrument for Systems of Care (SOC), a federal grant funded by the National Institute of Mental Health. This grant was used to aid the families of young people with chronic emotional issues.
While assisting with this research I received advanced training in cultural competence and structured interviewing techniques. I was able to administer the WFI-4 and worked closely with families in NorthEast Arkansas that had youths with severe emotional challenges. I also worked with his colleagues in conducting research on the effects of the post-modern movement in psychology. My findings were presented at psychology conferences at the state, national, and international level, including the APA and SWPA conferences in 2008. After graduating from Arkansas State University, I earned his Masters degree in Mental Health Counseling from Nova southeastern University.
Having successfully completed my Masters degree, I provided mental health services at a dual diagnosis treatment center in Boca Raton, FL. I later became a certified addiction professional (CAP) in the state of Florida. Five years later, I started my private practice located in beautiful East Boca Raton, FL. At my private practice, I provide treatment to families, couples, and individuals experiencing a variety mental health issues and addiction issues. I specializes in helping people with co-occurring issues navigate the complex pathway to a healthy life.
I am a NAUI certified Master SCUBA Diver and have incorporated my love for SCUBA and water into my therapy practice with Adventure-Therapy.
I am committed to helping men and women overcome any life issues, re-establish familial bonds, and build healthy social relationships. My approach to treatment is warm, empathetic, and holistic.

Adventure Therapy

My passion for adventure therapy started in 2013 when I met another clinician with a passion for helping people and a deep love of water, nature and SCUBA like myself.
From that moment my approach to psychotherapy evolved to not only include the more traditional clinical approach sitting in an office and talking, to one that utilized the natural healing power of nature and the many lessons we can learn from our experiences in nature. Nature is a wonderful motivator for change, self-reflection and healing. Nature will also help you re-calibrate your beliefs about your limits, strengths, and flexibility.
In my practice I use SCUBA and the experiences of being in an unfamiliar environment to help my clients harness the motivation and insight necessary to move past their current struggles in life. Many of my clients are suffering from anxiety, depression, trauma, and addictions that have negatively impacted their lives and their ability to engage in life. Through adventure therapy many realize the power they have to change, to move forward and let go of their past struggles. The process of breathing underwater, being present and engaging in a completely foreign environment translates to what is like to live a life of recovery from mental illness.  This process is called experiential learning.

Testamonials

  • “Brian Pagan has helped me greatly in my journey to sobriety. Understanding and compassionate about recovery and the struggles it entails, and using various exercises and assignments, he helped me not only discover a better way to live, but also a better way to view myself. From the start of our work together, Brian was patient while i went through the many phases of my recovery. From random outbursts and displays of emotion to medical issues, he was always patient and willing to take on the challenges i faced. In my adjustment from treatment to independent living, we worked on the many skills it would take to live in the outside world effectively, and in doing so he helped me create a better life for myself. I would highly recommend Brian to anybody whether in recovery of substance abuse, facing the challenges of grieving, trauma, or just have a desire to improve yourself through life skills and different styles of therapy.”

  • “Brian and his team have been instrumental in the continued successful recovery of our son (B). The team is “hands -on”,caring, and insightful in guiding young adults through the Recovery process.

B had several prior relapses because, in large part, of post Rehab support teams that just let him slip between the cracks and not be attentive to the warning signs of relapse.

Brian put together a team which was both supporting yet vigilant for B’s continued personal and spiritual growth. They carefully yet lovingly monitored him giving additional support at times of personal duress. B learned to turn to them both day or night knowing that they would be there for him and that he could rely on their advice. We learned the same. One can’t value the personal relief that parent’s can feel when they know that that their child is being guided properly, carefully, and lovingly–It simply breathes new life into a world of prior despair. We learned that recovery is not simply 30 days in a Rehab Center, but instead truly dependent on who guides the person back into a successful sober way of living—The Team is the secret to success–AND THIS TEAM IS TRULY THE BEST!!!”

  • “As a mother of a son whom has had a dual diagnosis meaning he had ADHD and anxiety which led him to use drugs and become addicted by the age of 16 life was nothing if not chaotic and scary.  My son was in the emergency ward twice and at a few rehabs before a close friend told us about her daughters experience with the wonderful therapist and q great case management team which my family was lucky enough to obtain.  We are so grateful!!!! Brian is dedicated, caring and professional and I thank god we found him!!! My son has blossomed under his loving guidance. He now has 4 years of sobriety, is back at school and is a responsible member of society!!!  Thank you for helping my son become a man with a life!!!”

  • “Brian has been treating our sons now for almost 1 ½ years and it has been a blessing. His very structured approach and his involving the whole family in joint sessions have been truly helpful in restoring communication lines within our family. His deep insights into the complex aspects of addiction have been invaluable. What impressed me most was Brian’s “non-theoretical” approach. Practical tools and procedures are key to long-term success in my view. Recovery Management Services also provides case managers which we found helpful as well. Overall Brian and Jamie’s ongoing interaction with our sons has made a big difference in their sobriety and we are extremely grateful to both for their work and help during this very difficult period for our family.”

  • “I have known Brian since early 2014.  In a nutshell, he saved my daughter’s life.  He has an uncanny ability to quickly understand what makes a person tick.  He works tirelessly with his clients and their families, supportive but when needed can provide constructive challenge.  This has helped me to learn how I can help her and not be co-dependent. It was a huge learning and something I personally work on every day. He is also very culturally sensitive, embracing other beliefs and practices to better understand how he plays a role in his client’s recovery but how it fits into the family unit.  He took on my daughter but got the whole family in the bargain! Brian is the right person to see you through struggles and support your family as well.”
